0 commentsChennai | Bengaluru | Goa | September 5, 2026 : In a significant series of events commemorating National Teachers’ Day on September 5, 2026, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan, internationally recognised scientist, educator, professor and global advocate for peace, led a nationwide initiative promoting education, social transformation and a culture of peace across India.
Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan serves as the Chairman-cum-Chief Rector of The American University of Global Peace, USA (AUGP USA) and The United Nations University for Global Peace, USA (UNUGP USA).
The events, organised across Chennai, Bengaluru and Goa, brought together educationists, spiritual leaders, human rights advocates, political representatives, academicians and social leaders with a common commitment to advancing peace, harmony, justice and inclusive development.
The central theme of the initiative, “Educating the Educated,” focused on the transformative responsibility of education in addressing deep-rooted social challenges, including caste-based discrimination, dowry practices, inequality in access to healthcare and education, and exploitative practices within the higher education system.
The initiative also paid tribute to the vision and legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India, whose birth anniversary is observed as National Teachers’ Day.
CHENNAI: RECOGNISING HUMAN EXCELLENCE AND SERVICE TO SOCIETY
The Chennai event was held at Hotel Ramada and jointly organised in association with the International Human Rights Peace Commission (IHRPC).
The programme was led by the elected Vice President of IHRPC, H.E. Global Ambassador Dr. Alwin Roland Timothy, along with Secretary Mr. Leo Patrick Christy.
During the समारोह, Bishop C. N. Rajkumar was honoured with the Human Excellence Golden Award from AUGP USA in recognition of his remarkable humanitarian contributions, including the organisation of more than 350 free health camps and health education programmes.
His Eminence Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan also conferred prestigious international recognitions upon distinguished leaders:
– H.E. Global Ambassador Dr. Alwin Roland Timothy received the Global Peace Ambassador Award from UNUGP USA and the Best Nation Builder Award from AUGP USA.
– Mr. Leo Patrick Christy was honoured with the Human Excellence Golden Award.
On behalf of the Governing Councils, Governors and Senate Members of AUGP USA and UNUGP USA, representing an international network across numerous countries, Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan expressed his appreciation for H.E. Ambassador Pastor Dr. Mark Burns, recognised for his work in spiritual leadership and the promotion of interfaith peace.
Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan also acknowledged the contribution of Ambassador Dr. Pedrito Marrero of Florida, USA, President of IHRPC, for his confidence in Dr. Alwin Roland Timothy and his team in establishing and strengthening the India Chapter of IHRPC.
The association traces its roots to earlier initiatives in Chennai, where international and Indian delegates came together to promote cooperation, human rights and peace.
In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan emphasised that peace education must become a powerful instrument for social transformation.
He spoke passionately about the need to move beyond geographical borders, religious divisions and social barriers to cultivate a global culture of peace.
Highlighting the philosophy of “One Global Family under One God” — Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan reminded the audience that humanity shares one planet, one environment and a common responsibility towards future generations.
He reiterated his long-standing commitment to establishing educational institutions, academies and peace foundations internationally with the objective of building a more compassionate, educated and peaceful global society.
During the interfaith programme, IHRPC also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with SRM Global Hospital.
The gathering celebrated individuals and organisations whose work has contributed to social justice, friendship, reconciliation, harmony and human welfare.
Representatives from different communities and organisations collectively reaffirmed their commitment to making the Earth a safer, more peaceful and sustainable place for present and future generations.
BENGALURU: HONOURING NATION BUILDERS AND SPIRITUAL LEADERS
At a similar event in Bengaluru, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan honoured outstanding leaders for their contributions to society, education, peace and nation-building.
Dr. Kirbakaran Paul, Chief Cardinal of the Ecclesia Episcopal Synod Worldwide Foundation, was honoured with the prestigious Best Nation Builder Leader Award 2026 from AUGP USA.
The Peace Ambassador Award from UNUGP USA was presented to distinguished political and social leaders, including:
– Mr. D. K. Mohan Babu, educationist and political leader.
– Smt. Geeta Vivekananda, a prominent public leader from Karnataka and former office bearer associated with civic and political responsibilities in the state.
The Bengaluru programme also recognised numerous spiritual and peace leaders from different parts of India for their contributions to faith, community development, humanitarian service and social harmony.
Among the distinguished leaders recognised were:
Cardinal Dr. S. P. Samuel, Archbishop Dr. Anbu Benjamin, Archbishop Dr. Daniel, Archbishop Dr. Amroz P., Archbishop N. David, Deputy Moderator Bishop Amit Sait, Bishop Sukumar Benzwad, Bishop T. Prasad Rao, Bishop John Peters, Bishop Harvin Soul Winner, Bishop Dr. Onesimus K. Gopi, Bishop Edwin Glory Dass, Lady Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Esther Kirbakaran, Pastor James Paul, Rev. Jaisheelan, and several other respected representatives of spiritual and peace organisations.
The event reflected the importance of cooperation among leaders from diverse backgrounds in building a society founded on mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
GOA: CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE, EDUCATION AND HUMAN ACHIEVEMENT
A third major event was organised in the State of Goa in association with the International Human Rights Protection Commission, under the leadership of Dr. H. M. Mujahid.
The programme brought together the international team of AUGP USA and UNUGP USA, including:
– Mrs. P. M. Krishan, Vice Chancellor of AUGP USA – UK Chapter.
– Mr. M. P. Jacob, Executive Director of AUGP USA – India Chapter.
Distinguished achievers from diverse professional fields were recognised for their exceptional contributions to society.
Awards and Honorary Doctorates (Honoris Causa) were conferred upon deserving individuals from sectors including education, academics, engineering, social development and human rights.
The event was coordinated by Ms. Angel Payal Krishan, Research Scholar in Peace Education, whose academic focus centres on the role of peace education in building a sustainable, developed and resilient India.
